Interview with Fifi O'Neill & A Winner of The Romantic Prairie Cookbook

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend.
When I asked Fifi O'Neill if I could do an interview with
her about her new Romantic Prairie Magazine due out any day now.
I was honored of course when she said yes. I really thought about the
questions I wanted to ask, things I was curious about, things I thought
my reader's would be curious about. Without further ado...

What date is it suppose to launch?
Sometime late April.

What inspired you to create RP magazine?
That came as the result of the success of my book, Romantic Prairie Style.

Do you have a specific style?
Yes. The best way to describe it is: Simple, uncontrived, evocative, wholesome, harmonious.

How did you come up with the title?
I named the magazine after my first book (Romantic Prairie Style). It was a logical idea

Is there a message in your RP that you want readers to grasp?
Be true to yourself! Don't let trends influence you. Don't let anyone tell you "it can't be done". Express yourself in ways that please YOU.

What magazines have most influenced your life?
European magazines

What are your current projects?.
Book #3 and  2 other new magazines in the works.

Do you recall how your interest in the RP originated?
The idea for Romantic Prairie Style came to me while I was thinking of the decorating elements that most appeal to me: the softer side of rugged, lack of pretension, imaginative and ingenious ways of creating a cozy interior with the timeless charms of simple, inexpensive furnishings. I began to research the origin of what is known as "country style" and that lead me to the homespun interiors, handmade items and European influences that characterized the homes of the early pioneers who settled in the American (and Canadian) prairies

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I am always planning ahead: finding new locations, scheduling shoots, looking for interesting props, writing, editing, styling, not just for Romantic Prairie but for other magazines as well and also the next book.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in creating a RP?
The most challenging part is to decide which homes to feature in each issue.

Do you have to travel much for your RP?
Yes, that's an ongoing thing. But it could be a lot worse!

Who designed the covers?
Covers are a collaborative effort between myself and the art director who comes up with the fonts and positions of the cover lines.

What was the hardest part of creating RP?
Figuring out the contents as there are so many options, which is a nice problem to have.

Do you have many contributors?
No, not many. I work only with a handful of select professional photographers and writers because they understand the nature of print publications and know how important great images and accurate writing are. They also know how crucial deadlines are.

Thank you Fifi for you time and for
your love of Romantic Prairie.

Below is a sneak peek of the beautiful inspiration that
is to come.
