In my last post of my Living Room Fun..I mentioned I am so picky when it came to art work..Well I was at my Mom’s this weekend, and saw this French Oil painting in the back of the guest room closet! I yelled, “Mom where has this been”? She said she bought it years ago, for a small fortune..She doesn’t remember how old it is but, it is very old. The next question we always ask mom..”Can I have it”? Of course she said..Big kiss to mommy! I was so excited to put it up, that I didn’t take be fore's of the frame color. It was a creamy yellow with gold peaking thru..So I slapped a fresh coat of pure white paint on it, distressed the frame a bit..and wa la, great contrast. I need to get the history on this oil painting. I would love to find out everything about it..History of Furniture and Art, were my favorite classes in school!
I love it for now..
I love it too! Don't you love to shop in mom's house?! Great job on the frame ~

Getting stuff my mom's house is always so much fun too!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Lu,
ReplyDeleteI love it! The paint application reminds me of mid 20th Century work I've seen though the subject is 18th Century. When you find anything out about it you must let us know...
Lou
xx
Oh the other thing to consider perhaps about the age of it is how the dress has been painted. See how her shoulders are bare which would not have been seen in the 18th C but does remind me of 1950s prom frocks...
ReplyDeleteHi Lu, I forgot to say about the ruffle pillow...it is very easy to make. On the pictures I tried to get the shots close as much as possible for the people to have an idea about the steps to follow. if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

My first visit to your lovely blog. Looks like I will be returning! I am a lover of all things white. I am drooling over the frame and the your mirror in the post below. I too have a discriminating taste regarding art I hang in my home.

truly a beauty!!
ReplyDeletei think that is a beautiful oil! and perfectly stands out with the crisp white......
ReplyDeleteLucky you! You did a great job with the frame. The combo is lovely!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I can't agree with you more! Unless it's a photo, it shouldn't be a print :-) I love oil paintings where you can actually see/feel the texture on the canvas. This one is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow - I'm an artist and can tell you that this painting is very well done. Look in your area for any art dealers who deal with the "old stuff". It would be interesting to learn more about it.
ReplyDeleteAren't mom's the greatest? Mine just gave me a beautiful old beveled mirror with etched flowers on the top and the bottom. It is so heavy that I need to have someone find me a stud to hang it on. My mother has a houseful of beautiful and interesting things, as her father was well traveled and every where he went, he brought home so much cool stuff! Luckily I am the only girl, though I do believe my brothers have their eyes on a few things....
Oh very gorgeous!
